Finding a job for Indian teenager is a tough task for everyone. The rules say hiring anyone below age 18 would be considered as child labour. So now how can a teenager in India earn some money the legit way and generate his own pocket money? Let us deal with the facts:

– India is a country with 1.32 Billon population

According to Trading Economics:

– The employment rate at highest is 29.6 million

– The unemployment rate at highest is 44 million

– Labour force participation rate is 52.90%

– Unemployed youth rate is 18.10%

Now obviously, these stats aren’t inclusive of teenage individuals but we can clearly see the employment condition of India which has a more than 50% labour force participation rate.

So how come India’s employment rate is so low? Maybe our youth does not have the required skills for a good job. We do get the education but our schools and colleges, unfortunately, do not teach us the specific skills required for a job so how can you think of doing a job with a very low skill rate? Do not find these words to be offensive as I do not mean to say that the Indian teenagers do not have any skills but with their provided skill set, the number, and type of jobs available for them is quite limited, even after including the online part-time jobs.

Plus, sometimes comes the distrustful attitude of parents who do not allow their kids to work under any conditions. Whereas on the other hand, the poor kids who really need to work to earn a living for their family find it more difficult.

The main reasons why Indian parents do not allow their kids to work are:

– Think it will affect the family reputation. (A big NO)

– Do not believe in the capabilities of their child.

– They want their child to focus more on studies without realizing that the lack of skills and experience is the reason behind the increasing unemployment rate in India.

So my dear Young Enthusiasts, Here I bring you the list of top 10 Jobs for Indian Teenagers to which your Parents won’t Refuse

Also remember that these jobs have been stated by a guy who himself started working at a young age of 17 and has the experience of earning in the late 10’s as a teenager.

10.  Jobs for Indian Teenagers #10: Blogging

Yes, the very first thing that I would like to put on this list is blogging. Blogging refers to putting any text content on the world wide web in the text format and write about a particular topic. It is one of the best online jobs from home.

Fun Fact: There are a whopping total 440 million bloggers in the whole world.

Blogging is a skill which allows you to share out your experience with the world and any other thing you would like to share. It is a platform where you can truly showcase your talent. You just need to keep uploading good quality content on a weekly basis and Ole! your blog will start attracting visitors if you remain patient.  There are tech blogs, educational blogs, cooking blogs, social media blogs, entertainment blogs and so many other blogs of various niches. Your parents, indeed actually take pride in this skill and do not think of blogging as a disrespectful job. If you start blogging at a young age, you might be considered cool at your school or college.

10.1 How to make money through blogging?

This is easy, basically, you need to get a domain or subdomain and a hosting service to set up your blog. This might need a little investment but it is totally worth it. In fact, you can start your journey with a subdomain for which there is no hosting service or investment required from your end you can pay for a domain and hosting later when people start visiting your blog.  You can start your subdomain blog right now at WordPress or Blogger.

10.2 How to buy a domain?

A domain is the URL of your blog site or you can say an identity or name of your blog site. For example –  http://www.google.com is a domain. You might need to purchase a domain from Godaddy or BigRock, etc. or you can start with a subdomain (no purchasing required) with the WordPress and Blogger links provided above. Note: Today, a free domain is also included with many hosting plans.

10.3 What is Hosting? What is the difference between hosting and domain?

While domain refers to the identity of your website, hosting is the part where your website runs or you can a host supports a domain. Just like your mobile phone and computer have storage space, ram and processor, hosting also includes ram, storage, and processors for handling your websites and traffic (the number of people who visit your site). Hosting plans differ very much and there are different types of hostings like shared hosting, WordPress hosting, Linux hosting, Windows hosting, etc. We will not go into the details any deeper. As a beginner, you are free to choose shared or WordPress hosting plan from websites like Bluehost or Hostgator

10.4 What is Google AdSense? How to earn money through Adsense?

There are many ways to earn money through blogging and the best one is Google AdSense. The duty of AdSense is to show advertisements on your blog. Whenever a visitor clicks on an advertisement placed on your blog you get paid for that click. For example, if your monthly traffic is 1,000 and 100 people click on the advertisements then you’ll be paid for every single one of those 100 clicks.

How Does Adsense work - Jobs for Indian Teenagers

We call the ratio of the impressions (views on advertisements) and actual clicks CTR or Click Through Rate. It is the CTR and CPC (Cost per click) which define your AdSense income. If your website has 100 clicks on an advertisement then it does not mean that all the clicks will pay you the same. The income which the clicks provide is based on many sources like from which country the traffic is coming from, what is blog’s niche and how the traffic is coming. You can use SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to increase your website traffic and there is nothing better than MOZ when it comes to learning SEO.

Now you can even monetize your blog by simply upgrading to the premium WordPress plans, saving yourself a lot efforts:

9.  Jobs for Indian Teenagers #9: Creating Memes

The whole world is a subject to the harmful and praiseworthy effects of social media. With the emergence of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Kik, and Snapchat, the way people interact with each other changed. On these platforms, we feel highly connected to the content we see on these platforms. Memes are such a type of content which attract a lot of attention because the key in this type of graphical images is humour.

According to Wikipedia, a meme means – “A meme is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture—often with the aim of conveying a particular phenomenon, theme, or meaning represented by the meme.

But we are going with the practical definition of meme in today’s world which refers to a humorous representation of things in graphics of pictures.

You guys might not believe but creating memes is one of the perfect online jobs for students as only they have got the right humor to do it!

9.1 So now! How to Get Paid By Creating Memes?

Basically, there are many options. You can get hired by meme pages who upload daily memes on Facebook and Instagram. If you do want to earn big by just creating memes then I will suggest you to start creating memes for Cracked.com. They do not pay every meme user who submits but they do pay the ones whose memes are selected.

9.2 How to Get Paid on Cracked.com?

Cracked.com online part time jobs
Cracked.com

Basically, you can read it all here in the ‘Official Rules’ section but I will still give you a little brief. Cracked.com calls the pictures and graphics uploaded to them as Photoplasty and Pictofacts. There are weekly Photoplasty and Pictofacts contests in which registered users can submit their submissions in the individual forums of contests. You can also pitch them a whole new idea and get paid for it. There’s no restriction on how many Photoplasts or Pictofacts you can submit them for a single contest. You can submit them any number. Your image shouldn’t be more than 550 pixels and winners are paid via PayPal. For the countries where the use of online money transfer services is not allowed, Cracked.com also does bank transfers once your total winning amount reaches to 75$.

9.3 How Much You’re Paid on Cracked?

Well, the happiest thing is that this isn’t just an online job for students or Indian teenagers. Any person with good creative skills can join the Photoplasty and Pictofacts contests. The money distributed as a prize for the acceptance of your submission depends upon the position your Pictofact or meme secures in their contest. Basically, the payment structure goes like this:

  1. The person who secures the first position gets 100$.
  2. 2-9 Position securers get 25$.
  3. The person who makes it to their list in the last position receives 50$.

If blogging and meme creating are still not a job good enough for you then I’ve also got other online part time job ideas for teenagers and college and school students.

8.  Jobs for Indian Teenagers #8: Social Media Managers

This job can be a little tough but is very entertaining. The best thing about this online job is that you can do this on your mobile phone anywhere. Like I said before, millions of people are attracted to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Snapchat, etc. so in order to promote their business and prominence, many companies and celebrities arrived on social media where they could easily communicate to a larger audience.

In this job you only need to Manage the Facebook or other social media accounts and perform actions like uploading photos and replying to comments with a mindset of increasing the page likes or followers

This is the easy way to explain it if you don’t want to enter into more technical terms like:

  1. Reach – The total number of people who see your post.
  2. Engagement – Any type of reaction like likes, comment, share etc.
  3. Impressions – The total views on your post.

The proper job of a social media manager might be increasing the reach, engagement, and impressions of the post. This might look difficult but is not as difficult as you think. You can gain the basic knowledge of social media marketing or SMM online on websites like neilpatel.com within less than a week and begin your practice. Feel confident in yourself as you’ll gain more knowledge about this niche while working.

8.1 From where to get a Social Media Managing Job?

This is easy. You’ll either get this job from commercial companies or celebrities who hire people, especially for social media management and believe me their number is in thousands. You can even mail proposals to your nearby restaurants if they wanna promote their website. For me, I found an internship in this category on Internshala.com.

8.2 Social Media Marketing made easier

If you are only handling one account for example just Facebook, uploading posts will be easier for you. Your pay can be a little low but you can always get hired by more than one company. For example, if your first company is paying you just INR 3,000 or 300$ for handling one social media account, with their permission or as per your contract, you can get hired by another company and earn another INR 3,000.

Buffer - online part time jobs for students
Buffer Interface | Image Source

The problem comes now when you’re managing multiple social media channels like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. All of these channels of one single company together, then things might get difficult and monotonous, you’ll be uploading the same thing multiple times. For this, there are many tools available on the internet which allow you to share a post on all the platforms with just a single click. You can also schedule your posts for the whole day in the morning. Throughout the day, the posts will be uploaded automatically.

8.3 Some of the Most Famous Social Media Managment Tools are:

  1. HootSuite
  2. Buffer
  3. HubSpot
  4. Sprout Social
  5. Meet Edgar

All these interfaces allow you to publish or schedule multiple posts for social media accounts and are a great plus for marketing and efficiency.

7.  Jobs for Indian Teenagers #7: YouTube

YouTube! Yes, you have heard it many times. One of the greatest online jobs for students or youngsters. How a job? Because without getting serious in your YouTube channel you won’t be able to make a single penny out of it. You can take the example of great YouTubers like PewDiePie or our beloved Indian YouTubers only like Ashish Chanchlani and Bhuvan Bam. They only had an idea to begin with which they implemented and now they are earning millions (counting Indian rupees but with passion, you can also earn million dollars like PewDiePie is earning.)

7.1 So How To Get Started With YouTube?

First, you need to have an idea, it does not need to be humor, you can do anything. You can

  1. Give information to people,
  2. Do product reviews,
  3. Create vlogs of your travel experiences,
  4. Create manuals and how to do videos,
  5. Music videos, etc.

Anything, literally anything with great passion and dedication would be successful on YouTube.

The second thing which you need is a YouTube channel. It is very easy to create a channel on YouTube, you just simply need to log in with your Google account. Do think a good name for your channel. Next step is uploading a video and keep doing it regularly.

Remember, a good youtuber always replies to the comments on his videos and does not make his followers wait for the next video.

7.2 How do you earn Money on Youtube?

Ding dong! Via Adsense (you need to scroll up and check point 10.4 as the list goes in descending order and I have already explained it above very well.) You’re paid via PayPal. You can also do some marketing to gain more likes and views on your YouTube videos. How about creating a separate social media page for your YouTube channel? Sounds like a great idea.

You can also put great key terms while uploading your video which is what terms or phrases people search most on YouTube and with which term you would like to get your video recognized with.

For example,

If your YouTube video name is ‘Benefits of Aloe vera for Skin,’

You can enter ‘aloe vera skin treatment’, ‘applying aloe vera,’ etc. as your keywords.

You can learn more about YouTube marketing and how to get more views on your YouTube video from this video.

7.3 Things you need to Understand Very Well

There has always been a misconception about subscribers, likes and views earning you money on YouTube. You’ll not earn a single penny even if you have one million likes on your video. The only thing which matters is ad-clicks and ad-views. To a point you can say, yes views earn you money but no as YouTube viewers do not get ads on every video they see. Your YouTube video will not be always uploaded with an advertisement on your viewer’s device. If you do want to count that views earn you money then you’ll need to divide the number of your total views by 5 or 6 or even more because even I also can’t say how frequently the ads will load but in most cases, the number is 1 in 5 views. So if we do the calculations:

10,000 views ≠ 10,000 ad views

maybe

10,000 views = 2,000 or 2,500 ad views

So count on this number to predict your income.

If you take a quick look at all the famous YouTubers, you will find that they all had to work a lot before getting successful. Their niches aren’t so much better than yours but their consistency is. If you pay your 100% to YouTube and upload just a single video per week for an year then it is 100% safe to assume that you can earn thousands via YouTube in the very-near future.

5. Jobs for Indian Teenagers #5: Graphic Designing/Photoshop

If you have a good computer at your house and have a lot of creativity then you can also do the job of graphic designing or photo editing. You can create your own profile on Instagram and market the creatives designed by you specifically. Graphics in 2018 is already an interesting topic, if you can learn to do photo manipulation at a young age then you can be a great graphic designer in future. Just making an Instagram Portfolio will attract many people to your work and you will be questioned behind the secret of your photos, this is where you can offer them your services. Do remember that for getting started with Photoshop, you do not require a high-end computer. Any mid-end core i3 laptop with a mediocre graphic card is sufficient to fill the minimum-requirements of Photoshop.

5.1 I don’t know How to use Photoshop?

Speaking by experience, as a teen I always used to get fascinated by the splendid graphical images and wallpapers, I used to think that I would never be able to create such images and the thought of learning Photoshop was way beyond my mind. But, at some point, I started learning Photoshop. It is a very simple application to use in reality, the tough work is done by your creativity, it is totally up to your choice how complicated and creative you want your graphic image to be. If we look at Photoshop as an online part time job for teenagers, you don’t even require to design those mind-blowing photo-manipulation images like these:

For beginning, you can start learning from YouTube. Some of the best YouTube channels for learning Photoshop that I suggest are:

This was a short info for the Mendr app, Fiverr is a gig-based freelancing platform  where you can create your gigs or ideas and sell them to earn money.

4. Jobs For Indian Teenagers #4: Reviewing Music

There’s no doubt teens have a great taste in music these days. They can be the artists themselves and also review the music. Plus, entertaining yourself while making money won’t hurt anyone a bit. It is hard to believe but around 12 hours of music is uploaded to SoundCloud every minute. By the time you finish this article, around 120 hours of new music would have been already updated on SoundCloud. However, the big artists get their music reviewed easily while the new emerging artists have to face some problems. You can make some money yourself and help the artists make money by reviewing their songs online.

4.1. Where to Get Earned for Reviewing Music?

A Job that seemed impossible is now possible on internet for any human. You don’t need to have any special skills in order to become a music reviewer but if you do want to learn a bit about music then it will only do you benefit. Some of the famous music reviewing platforms that you can visit to get started with this online job are:

  • Slice the Pie
  • MusicXray

4.1.1 Slice the Pie

Okay we all don’t recognize the word ‘Pie’ with music, feeling hungry? Slice The Pie claims to be a normal reviewing site where reviewers can get paid for quality reviews. Again, no special skills are required for using Slice the Pie platform. The minimum Payment withdrawal amount is 10$ and users can get paid anywhere between $0.5 to $0.20 for every review. Consider uploading lengthy reviews for earning more. You might find the income generated by this job considerably low but what matters is the beginning. Plus, with no special skills required, the pay is actually justified for this job. Users can get paid via PayPal on Tuesdays and Fridays once they generate the minimum payment amount.

Slice the Pie Website

4.1.2  MusicXray

MusicXray is another legitimate music reviewing platform like Slice the Pie. It was founded in New York in the year 2006 and pays the reviewers anywhere between $0.5 to $0.20 for reviewing a song. Your reviews again need to be in good quality for getting paid. Here you actually need to be the critic of songs for their betterment. You can get paid via PayPal on MusicXray.

3. Jobs for Indian Teenagers #3: Craft

This might look a bit silly but believe me this job is serious. You again need creativity to make something attractive like fashion jewelry, bracelets, handmade gift cards, gift boxes, decorations etc. For a better idea  you can take the example of Junky Drawer Instagram page.  The people behind this idea craft hundreds of gift cards, gift  boxes with several cool designs that are sold at a pretty good price. The only investment that you need is some decorating papers, glue and scissors but this can depend on the amount of work you want to do on your gift card, gift box, bracelet, candle, lamp, table showpiece, mobile cover, t–shirt, etc. These are just a few ideas that sell easily online.

online part time jobs for Indian students
Junky_Drawer Craft Work

The best thing about this part time job for students is that the investment is low but the selling price can be anything of your choice. Also, you only need to start working when you get a buyer, no need to prepare anything in advance but be ready with the supplies you will require for starting your work. If you think you alone aren’t good enough for this job then you can ask your friends or siblings for help  and then this work becomes interesting than ever. Again, you can visit the @Junky_Drawer Instagram page to get more ideas. Once you have crafted a few artwork, upload it on a platform like Pinterest or Instagram to increase your network and get more customers.

3.1. Selling Notes and Study Material

Well, if you are actually not that good at crafting things then you might be good at studying? Just kidding, you only need to stay regular to your school/college and pay attention while making notes. There are always some students who don’t attend the lectures and then are always busy asking for notes or homework. At beginning, you may find it rude or odd to sell your notes or study material to someone (pride issues or maybe heavenly principles) but believe me this isn’t bad at all. The notes were made by you so it’s your choice whether you want to charge anything for them or not. If you make it very clear to your classmates that you are going to charging people for your notes then it won’t matter much while actually selling them. Of course, the only exclusion being in this situation is that if your school does not approve anyone to sell his/her notes on school premises.

Jobs for Indian Students, craft.
Junky_Drawer Craft Work

However, if you are a college student then you will rarely face this problem as this job is really better suited in college. It is basically like selling your project or thesis to someone to help that person to get some idea for his/her project or thesis.  Now, we all are well aware that exam session is the best time for selling your hard-written notes and can bring you the maximum profit.

2. Jobs for Indian Teenagers #2: Teach Online

One of the highest paying jobs for teenagers is teaching others online. You don’t need to have a specific degree in order to start this work but can teach any skill that you have previously developed for example, playing guitar, blogging, graphic designing, singing, poetry, etc. It can be any thing in which you have learned with much precision. The online courses sell better than affiliate products and can earn much better. There are many online platforms where you can make selling courses an online part time job.

Do remember that while signing yourself up for teaching on an online platform, you need to create your data first or the study material in form of a video, blogs or as per the platform requires. You can use all your knowledge and create a course that can earn you hundreds of bucks per month.

2.1 Where to sell my course?

There are many online platforms which get millions of traffics every month. The traffic includes the wealthy portion of the targeted population that can easily spend on a course or two for learning something interesting. In the year 2018, there are many platforms which have the provision to provide citizens to teach on their website and in return, get paid. Some of the top platforms for this online part time job for students are:

  • Udacity

1. Jobs for Indian Teenagers #1: Giving Home Tuition

Teaching primary school students is the best job for teenagers these days. It is the most simple, easy, and quick money-making work. No parent will ever have an issue with his/her kid teaching someone. You can simply sit at home and teach 2nd or 3rd graders for a little money and can even charge them higher if teaching 4th to 6th grade students. While teaching other students, you yourself also would be sharpening your mind. In the modern world, parents are usually busy managing the livelihood of the family and sometimes the poor academic performance of their child gets neglected which results in low scores. You can teach such students and help them score higher by  working  on their weakly developed subjects.

The History

Giving tuitions to students is not a new job, we are doing this from the past few centuries now. We people in India have always been proud of our Knowledge. An intelligent person is always respected than one who never studied any words of wisdom. Before the emergence of laptops, internet, mobile phones, etc., teaching younger students is the job which most the teenagers of your age used to do. You can ask an elder to confirm the pride and passion people  had for the teaching job. In your life you also may have seen a few college students or senior secondary students departing knowledge to senior and primary students and helping them with their matrix exams or maybe you yourself might have been taught by such a senior. All of those individual that you can remember or have seen taught children to get some financial aid or just had the passion to work but all these were successful at maintaining a regular income by doing this job. If they can do it so can you, take my word for it, teaching young students is one of the best part time jobs for teenagers in India.

How to Get Started?

part time jobs for students: teaching

Teaching someone else is the easiest thing to start with. You can simply spread the words that you are looking for primary or senior school students to teach. A great tip for you would be to ask your parents to ask their neighborhood friends if they are looking for a tutor to help their children with education. You can also do this work yourself if children in your neighborhood recognize you and easily open up to you. The number of students that you should teach totally depends upon your capability. I will suggest you to only accept those students who are studying in a same grade. For example, if you have two students both studying in the 3rd grade then it would be easier to teach these two than teaching the students who are in different grades, e.g. one student in 3rd grade and the other in 5th. Once you yourself understand the syllabus then you can teach up to four students. I will not suggest teaching higher than four but it is really up to you, if you think you can easily teach more than 4 students at once without increasing your burden or putting their exam scores at stake then feel free to go for it.

If you aren’t sure about how much to charge the students for the tuitions, try checking the tuition rates for your city online. Being a student or teenager yourself, you cannot charge your students higher than what professional tutors are charging so only charge the same if you are really good at studies or less than that amount but never more. However, If you want to earn more in this part-time job, then you can add another student (if you can manage to teach) or teach higher grade students whose syllabus is supposed to be considerably tough. The tuition for a 5th grader is obviously supposed to earn you more than the tuitions for a 2nd grader. This was all about giving tuitions as one of the jobs for Indian teenagers.

My Results

Starting my career as a teenager myself, I didn’t start as part-time worker instead worked as a full-time employee in a recognized IT company of my city. However, after quitting the job after a short period I tried making money in part-time from various sources. I had already gained experience from my job and had a little knowledge of graphic designing (using the simple text, move and resize  tool) so I started doing my efforts. From the list mentioned above I myself have tried:

  • Graphic Designing

My experience with graphic designing, blogging and social media managing was good. I also tried content writing that reaped me same fruits. Income was very decent for an independent teenager (you can party hard and go to trips with your friends or even purchase a mid-end mobile phone by saving for like 2-3 months) but obviously not on par for an actual graduated professional. However, I continued my career in content and branding.

Today I am a content editor after a total 6 years of experience as a content writer (4.4 certified years and 1.6 years freelancing) and I am very happy with my income, which is really high for a person of my age.

Feel free to try any of these jobs and clear your queries in the comment section below. Also, do share your experience as a working teenager in the comment section below.
